Listless
screen version of Dan Wakefield's popular memory novel about two
young army
vets who become friends in 1950s Indianapolis despite having
existed on wholly different
social planes during their high school years. A good
book but an indifferent (and
familiar-seeming) coming-of-age movie, despite a
Wakefield script. Set in 1954,
film opens with a huge 1957
pop hit--never a good sign.
